Medically managed withdrawal

Our clinicians treat withdrawal from all of these

Detoxing alone from alcohol or benzodiazepines can cause seizures and can be fatal. Medical detox reduces that risk, keeps you comfortable, and makes relapse far less likely.

Inside our centers

Warm and home-like, not cold and clinical

Most detox facilities feel like a hospital ward. Ours are lodges — soft seating, real bedrooms, outdoor space, and food a chef actually cooked. Comfort isn't a luxury during withdrawal; it's part of why people stay through day three instead of walking out.

  • Spacious semi-private rooms with platform beds and storage
  • Indoor and outdoor lounges, TV, and recreation areas
  • Chef-prepared meals designed with a dietician
  • An assigned case manager and family support throughout
  • Private rooms and enhanced privacy at select locations

Confidentiality

Nobody finds out unless you tell them

The most common reason people put off detox isn't cost — it's the fear of being found out. Your medical and personal information stays private under HIPAA. We don't notify your employer. We don't call your family. That's your decision, not ours.

  • Speak with a real admissions specialist — never a call center script
  • No pressure and no judgment, whether you admit today or in a month
  • Enhanced privacy and executive options for professionals who need discretion
  • We never sell or share your information with third-party marketers

Straight answers

Questions people actually ask us

Does insurance really cover detox?

Very often, yes. Substance use disorder treatment is an essential health benefit on Marketplace plans, and federal parity rules prevent insurers from covering it more restrictively than medical care. What varies is your deductible, copay, network status and whether prior authorization is required. That's exactly what our free verification tells you — in dollars, not vague promises.

What if I don't have insurance?

Briarwood is a private, for-profit detox center, so we don't offer free detox. We do offer self-pay pricing and, case by case, structured payment plans and scholarship opportunities. Some people use an employer EAP, HSA funds, or healthcare financing. Call us and we'll tell you the real number for your situation.

If you need free or state-funded treatment, the SAMHSA National Helpline (1-800-662-4357) is a free, confidential, 24/7 service that can refer you to publicly funded programs in Texas.

How long does detox take?

Most clients spend about 5 to 7 days with us, though it depends on the substance, how long you've been using, and your medical history. Alcohol typically clears in 3 to 7 days and can take longer in severe cases. We'll give you a realistic estimate after your assessment.

Will my employer or family find out?

Not from us. We follow all HIPAA rules protecting your medical information, and we don't contact employers, family or anyone else without your permission. If discretion is a major concern, ask about our Houston Executive program, which adds a private room and access to your own phone and laptop.

What actually happens on day one?

You arrive and get a medical and psychiatric assessment, plus a tour. Our clinicians build a detox plan around your substance history and health, then begin managing withdrawal symptoms with medication where appropriate. You'll meet nursing and counseling staff and be introduced to individual and group therapy when you're physically up for it.

Can I detox at home instead?

We'd strongly advise against it for alcohol and benzodiazepines — unmanaged withdrawal from either can cause seizures and can be fatal. Detox kits sold online don't manage any of that. Medical detox is safer, more comfortable, and substantially reduces the risk of immediate relapse.

Is it inpatient or outpatient?

Both, depending on the location and what your situation calls for. Austin and Houston offer inpatient (residential) detox with 24/7 monitoring, best for people at risk of severe withdrawal or with co-occurring conditions. San Antonio offers medically supervised outpatient detox and IOP for people with milder symptoms and a stable home. Our team will recommend the right level of care during your call.

What happens after detox?

Detox isn't treatment on its own — it's the first step. We help you transition into whatever comes next: residential rehab, PHP or IOP, sober living, medication for substance use disorder, and ongoing therapy. Your case manager builds that plan with you before you leave.

How fast can I get in?

Often within 24 hours, and we frequently have immediate openings. We also provide transportation assistance to and from our centers. If you're currently in withdrawal or at risk of it, call (512) 641-5513 now rather than filling out the form.
